Our mosaic workshop is one of the most beloved spaces for both our students and visitors. We are passionate about creating mosaics because Madaba — our city — is world-renowned for its ancient mosaic art and rich heritage, which we strive to preserve and renew today.
Mosaic is a true art form, and like all art, it is deeply connected to beauty. For us, beauty lies in the subjects we choose, in the precision of craftsmanship, in our respect for traditional design, and in the harmonious selection of stone colors. We primarily use natural stones, though at times we also incorporate artificial stones or colored resins, depending on the artistic needs of each piece.
The subjects of our mosaics at the Arsenale are inspired by many sources: from the famous mosaics of Madaba and Jordan — such as the Tree of Life or the ancient cities of the Madaba Map — to original, contemporary designs. We are always delighted to create new custom works based on requests and commissions.
Each mosaic is created following a specific procedure that divides the process into several stages, each with a different level of difficulty. This approach allows all participants (aged 16 and above) to take part in the work according to their individual abilities.
Before beginning work on an actual mosaic, each student attends a preparatory course designed to help them understand the logic of image composition. Through exercises using tiles of various geometric shapes, they learn how forms and colors come together to create a complete image.
Through the mosaic workshop, we produce artworks that contribute to support the center’s activities. We also create pieces that enrich and beautify our surroundings — works that can be enjoyed by all our children, visitors, and friends.
